The exhibition In the Name of the Artists - American Contemporary Art from the Astrup Fearnley Collection gives a selected and fragmented vision of North American contemporary art from the last 30 years. It is also divided into three chapters: the first one is a constellation of "solo exhibitions" of works by American leading artists who made their place in the art world in the 80ties, such as Jeff Koons, Cindy Sherman, Felix Gonzalez-Torres and Richard Prince; and the 90ties, such as Matthew Barney, Doug Aitken and Tom Sachs. The second chapter is a survey of the emerging American contemporary artists, showing the diversity of that specific art scene which is still in the situation of becoming. A few of the them are Nate Lowman, Dan Colen, Aaron Young and Gardar Eide Einarsson. The last chapter presents the earthshaking works by the British artist Damien Hirst whose conceptual ties to the older American artists, and his influence on the younger generation, make this a fascinating complementary show within the show. Welcome, in the name of the artists.
