“Spirals and knots are recurrent in the visual identity of the 31st Bienal; as well as other intricate forms, including organic figures from pre-modern societies. Indian artist Prabhakar Pachpute was invited to create a drawing whose structure results in the shape of a tower of Babel supported by a strange conglomeration of human bodies. The fantastic aspect of the figure also refers to a made up collective and to mental and physical transformation; crucial to this Bienal’s curatorial approach. The movement of this organism points to the need for us to unite to walk in the same, although uncertain, direction.”
