Open Meeting Recife

On November 13, 2013, the curatorial team of the 31st Bienal travelled to Recife for an Open Meeting at Espaço Fonte, an art and collectivity center of investigation that organizes artistic residencies in the Pernambuco capital. The São José Market (photo) was one of the issues discussed at the encounter, after a visit there by the curators as part of their 'apprentice tourist' experiment (after Mário de Andrade). Built in 1871, the market was an iron and metal construction raised on the site of the Coqueiros ranch, and is considered Brazil’s first public market.
